Eight Speech Contestants Compete for $1,000 in Prize Money

If you would like encouragement about the future, you should attend the Bow Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest around this time next year.  Wednesday March 8th, eight high school students from Bow and Dunbarton, gave speeches using the Rotary Four-Way Test: Is it the Truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Does it build goodwill and better friendships?  Is it beneficial to all concerned?

Topics ranged from the benefits of summer camp to making ADHD a superpower, but all eight were well-prepared and interesting.
Baker Free Library’s Lower Level was the location, and parents of the speakers, Rotary members and other town residents attended.  In between speeches, members of the Club provided information about international projects, Club projects and Club experiences.
The Contest is an annual one, offering high school students an opportunity to test their speech writing and delivery skills in front of a friendly audience and impartial judges, with cash prizes awarded.

Seniors from Dunbarton, Marissa Green, Vanessa Hood, and Piper Watford and Bow, Finnegan “Finn” Bonner-Gerber, were challenged by Juniors Sabrina Barnard (Bow), Adeesh Cooper (Dunbarton) and Joseph McDowell and Sophomore Lexana Farr (both from Bow).
First place went to Adeesh “Adee” Cooper, with a prize of $500; Second place went to Finn Bonner-Gerber, with a prize of $300, and Third place to Joseph McDowell.  Ms. Cooper will go on to compete in the Rotary District Speech Contest semifinals, where she has the chance at an additional cash prize.
